THE GEORGIA STATE-GEORGIA SOUTHERN SERIES
In one of the most anticipated games of the season, the in-state and Sun Belt rivals square off for the first time ever on the football field.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Georgia Southern has the nation's highest team rushing average at 372 yards per game while Georgia State is ranked 21st nationally for its passing attack with a 303.1 yards-per game-average.

QUICK HITS
Georgia Southern looks for its 300th win in the program's modern era... This is the first-ever meeting on the football field between the in-state, Sun Belt Conference  and "GSU" rivals... Eagle fans have been encouraged to wear white apparel for a "WHITEOUT" of the Georgia Dome...  Georgia Southern plays seven of its 12 games this season in the state of Georgia with this weekend marking its second trip to Atlanta... Slightly more than 45 percent of Georgia Southern's students and 35 percent of its alumni in Georgia reside in the Atlanta metro area ... Ninety-two Eagles on the roster are from the state of Georgia with 48 from the Atlanta metro area... A dozen have played in at least one game in the Georgia Dome previously with appearances in state championship games and/or the Corky Kell Classic... Eagle sophomore safety Robert Brice graduated from high school in the Georgia Dome... Georgia Southern is 1-0 in games played in the Georgia Dome and 8-7 in games overall in games played indoors... Coach Willie Fritz is 3-1 in games he has coached in NFL stadiums with three straight wins over Stephen F. Austin in NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, during his tenure at Sam Houston State... The Eagles played seven consecutive weeks with only Idaho and New Mexico State among Sun Belt Conference schools owning a longer stretch with eight scheduled contests each before their open weeks this week... Following a bye week, Georgia Southern is 24-10 while Coach Fritz is 10-4 in games following a bye week.

DOME SWEET DOME
Georgia Southern is 1-0 in games played in the Georgia Dome with a 34-26 win over Middle Tennessee State on September 9, 1995. The Eagles were the designated home team in the inaugural Eagle Classic.  

INDOOR GAMES
Georgia Southern is 8-7 all-time in games played indoors (5-4 regular season, 3-3 postseason) with victories in four states: Georgia (Atlanta's Georgia Dome); Iowa (Cedar Falls' UNI-Dome), Tennessee (ETSU & Johnson City's Memorial Center) and Washington (Tacoma Dome). 

THE COACHES
Georgia Southern Head Coach Willie Fritz began his 22nd year as a head coach and his first as the leader of the Eagle Football program as it makes its FBS debut. The Shawnee Mission, Kansas, native has developed winning programs and cultivated success at each of his head coaching stops. He won two national championships at Blinn College, guided Central Missouri to 11 winning seasons and led Sam Houston State to back-to-back national championship appearances. He was selected as the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year at the FCS level in 2012 and was recognized nationally in 2011 as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coach of the Year. His 97-47 mark in 13 seasons as the Mules' head coach ranked Fritz as the winningest coach in the program's 118-year history where he was the only coach to ever win seven or more games in eight consecutive seasons.

Georgia State's second head football coach in the program's short history, Trent Miles begins his second year as the Panthers' head coach. A former assistant coach at several high-profile programs, Miles' first head coaching job was at his alma mater, Indiana State from 2008-12, where he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1987. At Indiana State, Miles built a struggling program that had one just one game in three seasons before his arrival into one that had three-straight winning seasons. A native of Terre Haute, Ind., Miles was a wide receiver for the Sycamores from 1982-86 and played on the 1984 team that was ranked No. 1 for much of that season.

SEVEN GAMES IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA
The Eagles' seven games in the state of Georgia included three in the month of September for a 2-1 mark as Georgia Southern picked up two wins at Paulson Stadium with loss coming at the hands of Georgia Tech in Atlanta. In October, the Eagles defeated Idaho for homecoming and head to the Georgia Dome to play Georgia State this weekend. A second Thursday night home TV game, on October 30th, Halloween eve, brings Troy to town. Georgia Southern's season finale, against ULM, is senior night and set for November 29th.
