McFarlane takes third in 500 meter Dash with personal best mark
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia Southern Track & Field finished its first day of the two-day UAB Blazer Invitational with 10 personal bests across four events Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex. Graduate student Sherril McFarlane led the way again with a third-place finish and personal record, this time in the 500m Dash. McFarlane's 1:15.27 was 1.05 seconds better than her previous best, set during the 2012 indoor season when she competed as an undergraduate. Her time was two seconds better than the top time of the Eagles' 2012-13 season.
Freshman Jordan Fordham posted two personal records with Georgia Southern's top time in the 60m Dash at 7.82 and her first-ever 300m race. Aliya Parker held the lowest time among the Eagle competitors, and her personal best in the 300m Dash. Lauren Toomer and Alyssa Felton both had top-30 finishes and set career collegiate bests in the 60m Hurdles with Toomer in 23rd and Felton in 29th place.
Extended competition in some of the field events affected the schedule Friday with delays pushing back the final scoring for at least one event. Saturday's events get underway with the 5,000m Run and Long Jump beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
