Georgia Southern will try to win its fourth in-season tournament of 2013 as the Eagles host the Bash in the Boro Friday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21. Georgia Southern takes on Central Michigan Friday at 7 p.m. and plays host to Jackson State (noon) and Charleston Southern (7 p.m.) Saturday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth.
The Eagles have participated in three tournaments so far this season and won each one – the Jaguar Invitational at South Alabama Aug. 31, the Magnolia Invitational at Ole Miss Sept. 7 and the Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament last weekend.
Georgia Southern has won 22 of its last 25 matches, dating back to last season, and is coming off a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts last Saturday.
Promotions
Friday night's match is Ladies Night - the first 100 students get free admission to Retrievers - and the Net Squad (band) will be in attendance. Saturday's noon contest is Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day – faculty and staff will get a free ticket with their Georgia Southern ID and will honored at halftime. Saturday night's match is Residence Hall Night, and the dorm with the most people in attendance gets free pizza.
Series Records
The Eagles are 0-1 against Central Michigan, and the lone meeting was in 2003. Georgia Southern is 7-3 against Charleston Southern with the last contest coming in 2010. Saturday's contest will be the first meeting between Georgia Southern and Jackson State on the volleyball court.
Players to Watch
Georgia Southern –
Crysten Curry is coming off an MVP performance at the GSU Volleyball Tournament last weekend, and the sophomore middle averages a Southern Conference leading 1.45 blocks per set. She is also hitting .333 with 50 kills for the season.
Central Michigan – Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre averages 3.88 kills and 2.06 digs a set, and senior Jenna Coates averages 5.73 digs a set.
Charleston Southern – Sophomore middle Meredith Parrott has been named all-tournament three times this season and is averaging 2.92 kills per set while hitting .354.
Jackson State – Senior middle Paige Williams leads the offense with 2.10 kills per set, and freshman Karmen Jackson averages 2.50 digs a frame.
Next Up
The Eagles finish non-conference play this weekend and open Southern Conference action at home against Elon, Sept. 27, and UNCG, Sept. 28. Both matches are in Hanner Fieldhouse.
