Women’s Soccer Back at Home for a Big Weekend at Eagle Field

Eagles host Jacksonville and Charleston Southern this weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Women's Soccer is back at home this weekend for a pair of games against Jacksonville and Charleston Southern on Friday and Sunday evenings. The weekend gets started against the Dolphins at 7 p.m. and concludes with the Eagles hosting the Buccaneers at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Friday's game is "Residence Hall Night" with each of Georgia Southern's residence halls being challenged to bring as many students to the game as possible. The dorm with the most students will receive a pizza party.

The Eagles took their first win of the season last Friday against Stetson with Jennifer Wittick scoring twice for the Eagles. She earned SoCon Player of the Week honors with the performance as she opened her career scoring account. The victory was also the first Division I victory for head coach Brian Dunleavy.

Jacksonville is 3-2-0 on the season with both losses coming in overtime to top-tier opponents. The Dolphins fell 3-2 to Miami (Fla.) on the opening weekend of the season and dropped a 1-0 overtime result to Georgia last weekend. Kaitlyn Bassett is the major scoring threat for JU with five goals this season including two against Niagara.

Sunday's match is the "#TrueBlue Out." The first 200 fans through the gate at Eagle Field will get True Blue towels.

Charleston Southern visits Mercer on Thursday night before facing the Eagles on Sunday. The Bucs are 3-2 on the year with wins over Francis Marion, Canisius and Jacksonville State. CSU, however, will finish third in the Chucktown standings, dropping matches to both cross-town rivals College of Charleston and The Citadel by matching 2-1 margins.

Toni Lashley leads Charleston Southern's offense with four goals and two assists. Chelsea Phillips an Chelsea Frankeny each have three goals this season for the Bucs.
