Eagles will play six of the eight fall games at home
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Softball begins preparations for its final season as a member of the Southern Conference this fall with an eight-game fall schedule. Six of those contests will be at Eagle Field and a season-ending road trip to Georgia to close the fall.
The Eagles are the back-to-back SoCon Champions following last season's 33-30 record which included the program's second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The fall begins with a doubleheader on Sunday, September 29th against Middle Georgia starting at 2 p.m. The next weekend the Eagles play four games, with Darton, Regis and East Georgia coming to Statesboro for back-to-back 1 p.m. doubleheaders on October 5th and 6th. The fall concludes on October 13th when the Eagles visit Georgia for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Georgia Southern's top two hitters from last season return for 2014. Shelby Morrill hit .340 with seven home runs while shortstop Kourtny Thomas provided the power, hitting 12 home runs.
Also returning for this season is the league's top pitching staff. Sarah Purvis won SoCon Pitcher of the Year honors last season with a 1.83 ERA and 18 wins. Brooke Red, a junior now, also tossed a 1.83 ERA with nine victories. Allie Miles picked up six wins a year and returns for her senior season.
