2013-14 Schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's tennis team announced its 2013-14 season schedule today.
Coach Amy Bonner and her squad open their season on Friday at the Kennesaw State Fall Classic. The fall classic is a three-day tournament in Marietta, Ga. that will feature four teams. The Eagles will also attend the ITA Regional Championship on Oct. 18-21, the Wofford Invite on Nov. 1-3 and will host the GSU Fall Invitational on Oct. 25-27.
"I am excited about the fall schedule that we have put together for the season. It will allow us to get a lot of good match experience out of the fall and will help us prepare for the spring. It will also give my players some great opportunities to play some strong players, to possibly gain a ranking and to gain some confidence before spring season," said Bonner.
Georgia Southern's dual-match schedule opens on Jan. 25 at home against Stetson. The Eagles will also face Presbyterian the following day at home before hitting the road for eight-straight matches. GSU will open Southern Conference play on the road at Elon on March 1.
"It is always fun to open up the season at home, which we get to do with Stetson and Presbyterian," said Bonner. "This season, we are also playing a lot of teams that we don't normally come across. I feel like we are getting some quality opponents and some quality matches out of our spring schedule."
GSU returns home on March 5 to host UNCW at 2:30 p.m. following the match the Eagles return to the road to face Chattanooga and Samford on March 8 and 9, respectively.
The Eagles host their first SoCon match on March 15 against Western Carolina and will return the following day to face Appalachian State. GSU will have a day off before heading to Charleston, S.C. to square off with UMass.
"UMass, who is coming down on their spring break, is coached by the wonderful Judy Dixon, who is a mutual friend of Brenda Carter. Carter is the former Senior Woman Administrator at Georgia Southern and lives there in Charleston now. She is helping us coordinate the match between us and UMass, and it is always fun to face a team that we don't normally come across," said Bonner.
Following the match, the Eagles will return home to close out the regular season. GSU will host five-straight matches at the Hanner Tennis Complex and will face conference foes Davidson, Furman and Wofford.
The Eagles will attend their final SoCon Tournament on April 16 at Chattanooga, Tenn. GSU will be leaving the SoCon for the Sun Belt Conference after the completion of this season.
