STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern swimming and diving coach Nate Kellogg announced today that he has promoted David Giambra to full-time diving coach.
As the graduate assistant diving coach for the last two seasons, Giambra has helped the Georgia Southern diving program reach new heights. Under his guidance, Sara Meisenhelder became the first Eagle diver to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, a feat she has accomplished in each of the last two seasons.
The senior has taken second on the 3-meter board and third in the 1-meter diving at the last two CCSA Championships. In addition, freshman Emma Weisel earned a spot on the podium in 2013, posting a third-place finish on the 3-meter board.
"David is an outstanding leader, mentor and coach and has been a tremendous asset to our program," said Kellogg. "This will ensure the continuity and stability within our program, and I am certain of the bright future of Georgia Southern swimming and diving."
A four-year letterwinner at Clemson University, Giambra achieved numerous top-3 finishes against ACC competition during his career. Winner of the Coaches' Award during the 2008-09 season, he holds school records in the one-meter, three-meter and platform diving events.
Giambra earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson, and the Yardley, Pa., native is currently pursuing a master's degree in engineering management at Georgia Southern.
