STATESBORO, Ga. – Wet weather across the region has forced North Florida and Georgia Southern to postpone their men's soccer exhibition, previously scheduled for Saturday night. The match will now be played on Sunday, August 18th, at 2 p.m.
Sunday's match will be played at Patton Park, home of Jacksonville FC, due to ongoing construction at UNF's home pitch.
The postponement came before the Eagles were to leave Statesboro for the match. The team made an appearance at the 2013 Meet the Eagles to sign autographs on Saturday morning.
Over the past two seasons, these two teams have provided some high scoring games, including last seasons' contest which saw seven goals. The Eagles fell 4-3 to the Ospreys at Eagle Field last year in a match that lightning delays and two Georgia Southern goals in the final seven minutes of play.
Two of Georgia Southern's goals last season against North Florida came from Joe Hughes who graduated this spring. GSU's other tally, an 88th minute score, came from Reed Norton as the freshman went on to lead the Eagles in scoring last season.
The Eagles will be back on the road next weekend for the final tune-up match of the preseason with a trip to UCF to face the Knights. That match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the UCF Soccer & Track Complex.
Georgia Southern Men's Soccer's 2013 campaign starts on August 30th by hosting the 2013 SoCon/Big South Challenge at Eagle Field. The Eagles play against Winthrop starting at 7:30 p.m.
