STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women's tennis team has been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), and all six Eagles who were eligible earned ITA Scholar Athlete accolades.
The Eagles posted a 3.78 grade point average as a team, while Paola Garrido , Alexis Prickett, Stephanie Woods, Caitlin Kitchen, Jordana Klein and Natalie Maffet were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
"I am proud of my team for being recognized for their hard work and determination in the classroom," said women's tennis coach Amy Bonner. " To have every player also achieve individual status as a Scholar-Athlete shows the pride they take in being successful on and off the court."
The Eagle women's tennis team advanced to the Southern Conference Championships quarterfinals and finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 10-12 record. Garrido earned second-team All-SoCon honors at No. 1 singles and teamed with Mary Phillips Smith to earn second-team all-league kudos at the No. 1 doubles position.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
