
Men’s Soccer Kicks off 2013 Preseason Camp

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer opened its 2013 preseason training camp on Monday with a pair of training sessions at the Fair Road Training Complex. The Eagles took part on their annual fitness testing on Sunday evening, paving the way for two spirited sessions on the practice ground. The coaching staff got their first opportunity to see players work together on the pitch in preparation for the 2013 campaign.
23 Players Open Camp with the Eagles
Georgia Southern's 2013 camp roster opened with 23 players on the pitch including five newcomers.
Four Freshmen Join the Fold
Georgia Southern's 2013 opening day roster featured four freshmen, including Hunter Loyden (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Chris MacMurray (Hilton Head, S.C.), Jeremy Rector (Duluth, Ga.) and Myles Young (Atlanta, Ga.).
One Transfer Opens Camp As Well
The Eagles were buoyed by the addition of Josh Ward, a junior transfer from Jefferson College. The veteran player will play defense for the Eagles this season.
Number Changes
Two Eagles have made number changes this season with Roberto Lopez changing from 18-to-8. Emmanuel Raji has added one to his number, going from 16-to-17.
Meet the Eagles set for August 17th
Fans will get an opportunity to pick up their 2013 Georgia Southern Men's Soccer Poster and have it signed at Meet the Eagles on August 17th. The event starts at 10 a.m. and includes appearances by the GSU women's soccer, men's soccer, volleyball and football teams for autograph signings.
GSU Heads to Florida for Two Exhibitions
Georgia Southern will head to the sunshine state over the next two weeks for a pair of preseason exhibitions against North Florida and Central Florida. The Eagles face the Ospreys on Saturday, August 17th from 7 p.m. in Jacksonville. The following Saturday, GSU travels to UCF for a 6 p.m. match in Orlando.
SoCon/Big South Challenge Opens the Year
The 2013 season gets underway on August 30th with the SoCon/Big South Challenge from Eagle Field in Statesboro. The Eagles face Winthrop on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Sept. 1st at 2:30 p.m. Wofford will also be in town on that weekend, facing the same two schools in neutral site contests at Eagle Field.
