STATESBORO, Ga. – The Tennis Recruiting Network (TennisRecruiting.net) released its 2013 top-25 mid-major men's tennis recruiting classes, and Georgia Southern was one of 11 programs to be named honorable mention.
It's the second of head coach Nick Zieziula's three recruiting classes to be considered one of the top-25 in mid-major tennis. His 2011 class was ranked 25th by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Christian Kerrigan and Nico de Groof make up the 2013 class. Kerrigan, from London, England, is ranked No. 28 among under-18 players in all of the United Kingdom and No. 1 in his county of Surrey. De Groof hails from Hulshout, Belgium, where he is currently ranked 127th in the National Men's Open Rankings.
Kerrigan and De Groof will solidify the roster for next season, adding youth to an experienced team that upset the two top-ranked teams in the Southern Conference last season and finished 2013 with a winning record for the first time since 2009.
"Christian and Nico are both fine young men and great tennis players who are going to come in and immediately contribute to building our program," said Zieziula. "We are excited to have them join our family."
The Eagles went 11-9 (6-4 SoCon) this year, while advancing to the SoCon quarterfinals for the second consecutive year in Zieziula's three seasons at the helm.
