
Defending SoCon Champion Women’s Soccer Announces 2013 Slate

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Women's Soccer announced its 2013 schedule of games on Thursday. In its last year as a Southern Conference member, the team will gear up for 19 total matches, including 10 league games as well as 10 home games at Eagle Field. The Eagles open defense of their 2012 SoCon title op north, traveling to Indiana State and Big Ten opponent Indiana on August 23 and 25.
"We are looking forward to our 2013 schedule, both the non-conference portion and competing for our last year in the SoCon before we make the transition to the Sun Belt," said Head Coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel. "We feel like we have comprised a solid, highly competitive non-conference schedule that will prepare us for our SoCon opponents and hopefully the defense of our conference title."
The month of August provides the Eagles with an early test as it fully consists of road match-ups. After their Indiana trip, the Eagles finish out the month with contests against ACC foe N.C. State (August 30) and High Point (September 1).
The Eagles start a three-game home stretch on Friday, September 6, taking on Stetson at 7 p.m. in their home-opener at Eagle Field. Jacksonville and Charleston Southern visit Statesboro the following weekend on September 13 and 15.
A trip to in-state rival Mercer on Sunday, September 22, provides the Eagles with a regular season game leading up to the start of conference play.
League play begins on Friday, September 27, against Samford in Birmingham, Ala., and will continue at Chattanooga in Tennessee on Sunday, September 29, before the Eagles turn home for three consecutive games.
On October 4 and 6, the Eagles return to Eagle Field, hosting Appalachian State and Western Carolina in their first conference home games. A mid-week game against Francis Marion at Eagle Field on Thursday, October 10, closes out the non-conference part of the 2013 schedule.
Georgia Southern resumes league play on the road against The Citadel on Sunday, October 13, before welcoming Elon and UNC Greensboro to Eagle Field on October 18 and 20.
The last two road games of the year are in South Carolina against Furman and Wofford on October 25 and 27. The Eagles take on Davidson at home at 7 p.m. in their regular season finale.
The 2013 SoCon Tournament is slated to start on November 3 at campus sites of the higher seeded teams and will resume with semifinals and finals at Davidson on Friday and Sunday, November 8 and 10.
On August 18, the Eagles meet Georgia State in Atlanta in an exhibition match. The contest will be GSU's only preseason match.
