Men's Tennis Sweeps The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Georgia Southern Men's Tennis improved to 2-0 in conference action after a 7-0 sweep over The Citadel in a Saturday afternoon match at the Earle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C.
"I'm very proud of the way we competed today and took care of every point," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula.
The Eagles (6-4, 2-0 SoCon) claimed the overall win in doubles thanks to victories on court two and three. Matthijs Verdam and Kyle Hoffman teamed up to give the Eagles the ability to take the point, defeating Dillon Berkabile and JC Pauli on court three. On court two, the duo of Andrew Dromsky and Oliver Webb clinched the doubles point with a 8-4 victory over Peter Bleach and Alex Howle.
The momentum was carried over into singles as the Eagles quickly earned straight set wins on courts four, two and five. Junior Marco Osorio clinched the match on court five with a 6-2, 6-4 win over his opponent Elliott Sperr. The junior has now won three straight matches.
Before Osorio's victory, two more Eagles had already claimed wins for the Blue and Gold. Webb defeated James Atkinson 6-2, 6-0 for the first win of the day at the number four position and Rayane Djouad followed shortly thereafter with his team leading seventh win of the season after beating Dillon Berkabile 6-2, 7-5.
Even though the match was played, three more Eagles battled out wins, all coming in three sets.
Hoffman earned his first singles starting nod of the year and turned it into his first win as well, defeating Jackson Pride 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 in a comeback victory
"Kyle Hoffman did a great job competing in singles today, it was great to see him back in the singles lineup," Zieziula said.
Senior Verdam added his fourth singles win of the year with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Peter Bleach.
Another solid performance came from Dromsky, who earned his career first victory at the number one singles position. The sophomore rallied against David Orces and took the match with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 for the Eagles' final win of the day.
"Andrew came through big taking his first win at number one singles against one of the better players in the conference," said Zieziula.
Seven Eagles currently own undefeated singles records in conference play.
The Citadel fell to 5-7 on the year, including a 0-5 SoCon mark.
The Eagles return home for their next match, taking on the College of Charleston on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
