STATESBORO, Ga. -- Exactly two weeks after competing last, the Georgia Southern Men’s Tennis team is hitting the road again to continue a five match away trip. The Eagles will take on No. 60 Georgia State on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will stay in Atlanta for a noon match up with Kennesaw State on Sunday.
“We’ve just been trying to focus on getting a little better each day, both conditioning wise and technically and tactically. We have a lot of good scouting reports from Georgia State and Kennesaw so we’re just going to need to stick with game plans once we get on the court.
The Panthers have been ranked in the ITA National Rankings since the start of spring season and currently hold a 4-1 record.
“Any time you have the opportunity to knock off a top 75 team it brings a little extra energy to things. But we’re going to have to be very disciplined,” said Zieziula.
The Owls started off their spring season at the Wake Forest Spring Invitational on Jan. 11-14 and will play their first dual match on Saturday.
The Eagles proved to be victorious in their first match of the year on Jan. 26, beating Mercer 4-3. Redshirt freshman Carson Jones claimed the win in three sets after overcoming a 3-0 deficit as well as a tiebreaker in the second set.
The team will not play their first home match until Feb. 22 when they take on East Carolina at the Hanner Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
“I think it’s good to put the guys through some adversity early in the season to see how they respond to it and to learn some of those lessons of how to compete on the road and how to deal with crowds, different facilities and adjusting to court surfaces and things like that. I think it’s a great opportunity to learn it early in the season so we will be prepared once we get into conference play," said Zieziula.
