SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes has been named the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.
Wolfes posted a pair of runner-up finishes to kick off the spring campaign, leading the way for the Eagles at the SunTrust Gator Invitational and the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
At the spring season-opening SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., Wolfes shot a 4-under 206 to take second in the field of 75 golfers. The sophomore matched his career low with a second-round 66, tying the fourth-lowest round in school history and helping Georgia Southern finish seventh in the 14-team field, which included six ranked squads and six ranked individuals.
At the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., Feb. 18-19, Wolfes shot a 2-under 214 to tie for second place in the 90-player field. The Eagles won the tournament, rallying from a three-stroke deficit in the final round to best the rest of the 18-team field. GSU finished eight strokes better than tournament host Francis Marion, which came in second. It was Georgia Southern's third tournament title in the 2012-13 season.
Wolfes has finished first or second in five of his seven tournaments this season. He has six top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes in his career.
Georgia Southern is back in action at the Samford Intercollegiate March 4-5, in Birmingham, Ala.
