HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Hayden Anderson is tied for fifth, and the Georgia Southern golf team is in third after the first round of the 18-team Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament Monday afternoon.
The Eagles were slated to play 36 holes today, but frost delayed the start of round one by an hour this morning. Each squad has approximately five holes left in round two. Georgia Southern trails second-place Richmond by four strokes and leader and tournament host Francis Marion by five.
Anderson carded a one-under-par 71 to lead the Eagles, while Scott Wolfes shot a 73 and is tied for 12th. Charlie Martin is tied for 24th after firing a 75. Will Evans shot a 77, and Blake Olson rounded out the group with an 80.
"We were a little ragged early on but finished the first round well to save things before they got out of control," said Georgia Southern coach Larry Mays. "We settled down and are in the process of putting together a solid second round. We need to go out in the morning and finish that round strong and then play well in the last 18."
The tournament is slated to continue tomorrow with the conclusion of the second round followed by the third and final round.
