Women’s Basketball Alumni Day Set for Jan. 11

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women's basketball program and the GSU Athletic Foundation, will hold its annual Alumni Day, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Georgia Southern Women's Basketball, Jan. 11, 2014.
All women's basketball alumni are invited back on campus to take part in a basketball doubleheader – the men's team faces Western Carolina at 2 p.m., and the women take on UNCG at 4:30 p.m. – as well as tour the new women's basketball locker room and get introduced and recognized at halftime of the women's game. The 6th Man Club hospitality area will be available prior to both contests as well as at halftime of the men's game, and a reception on campus in Bishop Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. will cap the day's events.

This is the 40th Anniversary of the women's basketball program at Georgia Southern, which began varsity competition in the 1973-74 season. Last season, over 25 former women's basketball players, including Georgia Southern Hall of Famers Phylette Blake, Sharon Mitchell-Coleman and Regina Days-Bryan attended Alumni Day.
The women's basketball game against UNCG will open a three-game Southern Conference homestand for the Eagles. Georgia Southern also plays host to Elon Jan. 13 and Davidson Jan. 18.
