Fresh off its second consecutive SoCon regular season title with a 13-3 mark in league play, top-seeded Georgia Southern will face eighth-seeded Elon in the first round of the SoCon Tournament Friday at 12:30 p.m. The tournament, hosted by Furman, runs Nov. 22-24 in Timmons Arena, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament is on the line. The winner of the match between the Eagles and Phoenix will face the winner of UNCG against Appalachian State Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Eagles won both matches against Elon this season, topping the Phoenix 3-0 in Hanner Fieldhouse Sept. 27, and 3-0 on the road Oct. 12.

Georgia Southern is coming off two home wins last weekend. The Eagles defeated Western Carolina 3-1 Friday night and Appalachian State 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix have lost their last four matches and are coming off a 3-2 home setback to Davidson Saturday.

Players to Watch
Georgia Southern – Several Eagles are ranked in the top-5 in the SoCon in a number of statistical categories. Kym Coley is second in hitting percentage (.383), and Jamie DeRatt is second in kills (3.67 per set).  Katalin Minnerly leads the league in assists (11.28 per set), and Crysten Curry is second in blocks (1.26 per set). Alexandra Beecher is fourth in digs (4.67 per set).

Elon – Kris Harris averages 2.54 kills per set and ranks second in the conference in aces with 0.32 per set. Megan Gravely averages 2.86 kills per set.
