STATESBORO, Ga. – Volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced today that Liat Hackman (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Georgia Southern and play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2014 season.
Hackman is a 6-foot-4 outside hitter at Beverly Hills High School and plays club for LAVA South 18-1. She was selected to compete as a member of Team USA in the third largest international sporting event in the world, the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, in July of 2013. She served as the co-captain on that squad and helped Team USA to a silver medal.
Hackman was named first-team All-Ocean League in each of the last two seasons and was named to the Brentwood and Pasadena Polytechnic all-tournament teams.
"I have been watching Liat for the past two years, and there is a huge upside in her development," said Wood. "She will bring size to our outside position and help our program get to the next level. She has great footwork, which will help her to develop quicker. She brings energy and passion to the game, and her leadership qualities are second to none. Her high school, club and USA Volleyball international experience will serve her well in her tenure here at Georgia Southern, and we are excited to add Liat to our program."
Georgia Southern recently captured its second consecutive Southern Conference regular-season championship and heads to this weekend's SoCon Tournament as the top seed. The Eagles will take on eighth-seeded Elon at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. The winner of the tournament gets the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
