STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball earned 12 slots on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-America Scholar-Athlete list. As a squad, Georgia Southern posted a 3.33 team GPA which ranked second in the Southern Conference and first among current and future Sun Belt programs.
Seniors Alexa Lewis, Andrea Tarashuk and Tabby Douberley headlined the list which included Breigh Findlay, Brooke Red, Gabby Story, Kaitlyn Johnson, Lexi Allen, Marla Thompson and Nicole Benton.
"We've got a tremendous group of student-athletes and having them excel in the classroom as well as on the field is one of the greatest blessings that a coach can have," said Head Coach Annie Smith. "I'm very proud to have half of my team with over a 3.5 GPA as we get ready for another big spring on the diamond."
Findlay, Red and Thompson each posted perfect 4.0 GPAs for the year.
The award was given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. The Eagles were among a list of thousands of student-athletes from all divisions including 160 NCAA Division I Institutions.
