Box Score STATESBORO, GA.- Georgia Southern women's soccer faced Western Carolina's Catamounts Sunday afternoon. After a tough 90 minutes, the Eagles were defeated 2-1. The Eagles' are 2-7-2 and 1-2-1 in the SoCon while the Catamounts improve to 7-5-1 and 1-3-0 in the league.
"We worked hard and battled all day," Head Coach
Brian Dunleavy said. "Giving up the penalty kick really changed the momentum of the game and we weren't able to recover from that. We have to do a better job at overcoming obstacles and keeping a consistent mindset."
The Eagles got off to a solid start with
Nora El-Shami scoring the first goal of the game on 26 minutes, her second goal of the season. El-Shami was assisted by
Cori Dulmage.
In the first 45 minutes GSU and WCU totaled 3 shots on goal each with the Eagles controlling the scoreboard, 1-0.
With 26 minutes left in the game, WCU equalized the scoreboard by sliding a penalty kick past GSU's goalkeeper
Molly Williams.
Caitlyn Bradham gave Western Carolina the victory with just six minutes left in regulation. She scored the goal on an attack from the wing, scoring the shot from just outside the penalty box.
The Eagles next competition is a GATA game, against Francis Marion on Thursday, October 10th at Eagle Field starting at 7 p.m. That match can also be seen live on GS All-Access from GSEagles.com.
