STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern Men's Tennis finished out the weekend with some victories and some defeats on their home courts. The tournament consisted of four draws total; two singles flights and two doubles. Participating schools included Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic, Kennesaw State, University of North Florida, and Armstrong Atlantic. Results for each draw are posted on the links below.
Oliver Webb finished was the Eagles' top finisher of the weekend, earning 3rd place honors in the top singles flight. The duo of Oliver Webb and Kyle Hoffman were defeated in the first round of the top doubles draw, but were victorious in the consolation of that draw.
"The highlight of the weekend was definitely Kyle Hoffman returning to action," Head Coach Nick Zieziula said. "Kyle struggled all last year with some injuries but has worked incredibly hard this summer and fall to get back onto the courts. The training staff has done a great job to help him get back on court ahead of schedule. With each match that Kyle played over the weekend he got better and ended up finishing with a winning record in doubles and took his first singles win since March."
When asked what his thoughts were on the overall level of play of the weekend, Coach Zieziula responded, "It was very disappointing not to have any players in the finals in our home tournament. We did improve as the tournament went and Webb posted two solid singles wins, however, we have a lot of work to do in order to reach our goals for this year. We have a short week to implement some of the lessons from this weekend in practice before heading up to Atlanta for our regional tournament this week. We need to manage ourselves better in between points in order to be focused and really battle for every point."
