GREENVILLE, SC.- Georgia Southern women's soccer hits the road again for their last two away matches of regular season SoCon play. The Eagles face Furman on Friday evening at 7pm and Wofford at 2pm on Sunday. Currently the Eagles are 5-8-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the SoCon.
Last time out, the Eagles defeated UNCG 1-0 on their Senior Day. UNCG women's soccer had not lost a match on the road in the last 4 years, but the Eagles were able to break their 25 match unbeaten streak. The game remained scoreless until
Nora El-Shami scored a spectacular goal off of a corner kick with just 12 minutes left in regulation, giving the Eagles the lead 1-0. GSU held strong, not allowing UNCG to recover and securing the victory.
GSU's last encounter against Furman resulted in a Paladin victory, 2-0. An early goal from Furman gave them the advantage heading into the second half, and they were able to double their lead with about 20 minutes left in regulation. The Eagles weren't able to retaliate, suffering the loss 2-0.
Last time the Eagles faced Wofford they were successful with a 2-1 victory.
Nora El-Shami and
Stephanie Gratto were able to tally one goal each, allowing GSU to remain in the running for the 2012 SoCon Conference Tournament.
The Eagles close out Southern Conference play with a home match versus Davidson on Wednesday, October 30th at 7pm.
