QUICK HITS
In six games this year, linebackers Edwin Jackson and Kyle Oehlbeck are tied with 43 total tackles with each one as the leading tackler in two games and tied for the lead in two... Senior running back Johnathan Bryant needs one more carry for 100 in his career and has 822 career rushing yards... Six of the last seven games in the Georgia Southern-Appalachian State series have been decided by seven points or less... Of the Eagles' 12 overtime games, two have featured Appalachian State (W ot 2010, 21-14, L 2ot 2006 20-27)... For the first time since 2009, this game does not feature one or the other team with a number-one ranking... Wide Receivers Coach Chad Lunsford spent two seasons on the staff at Appalachian State as tight ends coach (2001-2002) ... Scot Sloan, secondary coach for the Mountaineers, served in a similar role for the Eagles from 2002-2005.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN-APPALACHIAN STATE SERIES
In its longest series against an opponent, Georgia Southern finds itself in its only deficit against current conference opponents as the Mountainers have a 15-12-1 all-time mark against the Eagles and a 12-10 advantage in games played in the modern era. The Eagles defeated the top-ranked and previously undefeated Mountaineers in a 21-14 overtime win at Paulson Stadium in November 2010. That Eagle victory ended ASU's 26-game conference win streak, a streak that started after Georgia Southern's last win in Boone, N.C. in October 2007. The Eagles' came out on top at Kidd Brewer Stadium 38-35 and halted Appalachian State's 30-game home win streak.
THE COACHES
A 2012 finalist and 2013 candidate for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year honors, Jeff Monken is in his fourth year as head coach of the Georgia Southern Football program with a 35-14 record for a 71.4 winning percentage. Monken is one of only two coaches in Eagle Football history, the other his mentor Paul Johnson, to record 10 or more wins in each of the first three years of his tenure. With 24 years of coaching experience, including five years as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern during one of its most successful periods, Monken is prepared to navigate the present and the future for this Eagle Football program.
Former Mountaineer quarterback Scott Satterfield has spent 17 of his last 22 years at Appalachian State as a student-athlete and a coach and became the head coach of his alma mater in December of 2012. The sixth alumnus to coach the Mountaineers, Satterfield served the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Toledo (2009) and offensive coordinator at Florida International (2009-10) prior to returning to Boone. Satterfield started 27 games for the Mountaineers from 1992-95 and helped lead ASU to the only undefeated, untied regular season in school history (11-0) in 1995.

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE MOUNTAINEERS
Appalachian State snapped Georgia Southern's 14-game home win streak and snatched a win away from the number-one Eagles 31-28 at Paulson Stadium last year in front of the seventh-largest crowd in program history. Jamal Londry-Jackson threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns to upset Georgia Southern with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Tony Washington.
Georgia Southern was in the lead 14-3 after the first quarter, but the Mountaineers scored three of their touchdowns in the second quarter for a 24-21 edge at halftime. The Eagles missed three field goals on the afternoon and an interception deep in Mountaineer territory put the ball back in ASU's hands with less than a minute to play.
Eagle running back William Banks ran for a career-best three touchdowns on the day, including back-to-back scores in the first quarter.

Despite not being eligible for the Southern Conference championship and postseason play, Georgia Southern was voted as the league's favorite by both the SoCon coaches and media this summer.
