Women’s Soccer Faces The Citadel Sunday Afternoon, 2pm

CHARLESTON, SC.- Georgia Southern women's soccer takes on the Citadel Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The Eagles hold a  3-7-2 overall record, and are  1-2-1 in SoCon play. The Citadel Bulldogs are 3-7-1-2 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Last season the Eagles played the Bulldogs at home, but suffered a shocking loss 4-2. Georgia Southern led early, but three straight goals for the Citadel propelled them to the victory. The first goal of the game came on the 23rd minute from Courtney Collins, off of a penalty kick. The Bulldogs leveled out the score just before halftime, intensifying the game. The opponent was able to score two more goals on the 67th minute and then again with just under 20 minutes left in regulation. Eagle Alex Murphy scored her third goal of the season with 15 minutes left on the clock, the scoreboard reading 3-2. The Citadel responded with the game-winning goal, securing the win at 4-2.

In their last SoCon competition, the Eagles fell to Western Carolina 1-2. Nora El-Shami secured her second goal of the season early on in the game, giving the Eagles the lead 1-0. GSU kept the lead until late in the game when WCU's Catamounts equalized the score with a penalty kick goal. They locked in the win with just 6 minutes left in regulation, attacking from the wing, scoring the shot from just outside the penalty box.

The Bulldogs' last competition was against Davidson University on Thursday evening. Davidson blanked The Citadel 3-0 with one goal in the first half and two early in the second.
