Eagles Drop Tough Result to Georgia State, 2-1

Witt Carlisle scores in first half to put Eagles up 1-0

Box Score STATESBORO, GA. – On a night where the Eagles looked good enough to win, Georgia State stole a 2-1 result with a pair of second half goals. The Eagles went 1-0 up in the first half on Witt Carlisle's fourth goal of the season. The visitors scored just two minutes into the second half and added another on 73 minutes to secure the win. Next up for Georgia Southern is a trip to Elon on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

"Despite the result, I feel like we did a good job sticking to our gameplan and imposed our style of play on them," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "Now we've got a big game against Elon to get ready for. We won last time we went up there and I think the team will be ready for Tuesday night."

With the loss, Georgia Southern falls to 4-7-0 on the year while Georgia State improves to 5-5-1 in 2013.

Will Carlisle got the Eagles off the mark late in the first half with a breakaway goal. The senior striker was fed by a long pass from Hunter Norton which sprung Carlisle and allowed for the simple finish past the Georgia State keeper.

Just after the break, Georgia State brought the visitors back on level terms when Amiri Abraham was in the right place at the right time for the goal. Aaron Jones struck the corner kick into the box and Connor Acheson headed the ball back towards goal. Nwiloh was on hand to flick the ball back towards goal and found the net to level the score 1-1.

Andy Anglade scored Georgia State's game-winner in the 73rd minute goal off the wing. He used his speed to beat the Eagle defense and cracked a shot from the edge of the penalty area to find the net.

The Eagles return to the grind of league play next week with a trip to Elon on Tuesday evening. The Eagles will look to avenge back-to-back SoCon Tournament defeats at the hands of the Phoenix in the 7 p.m. match. Southern took a 2-1 win over the Phoenix in its last trip to Elon.
