BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Will Evans shot a 1-over-par 73 in the final round and tied for third at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Tuesday. Georgia Southern placed seventh in the 12-team tournament, which featured seven teams in the top-50 in the country.

Evans bogeyed his first and last holes of the day, but those were the only blemishes on his card. The senior birdied the par-3 13th hole and collected 15 pars on the way to his second top-3 finish of the young season after shooting 68-69-73=210. He tied for second at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic last weekend.

Scott Wolfes carded a 74, while Kim Koivu and Charlie Martin each posted a 78. Christian Humber shot a 79, and Sam Towler, seeing his first collegiate action as an individual, shot a 79.

The Eagles (+11) fell one spot to seventh with today's 303 team score. Memphis fired a 12-under-par 276 to move up the board into first at 22-under for the tournament. Host UAB (-16) was second, while Ole Miss (-7) tied for third with Florida, which shot 2-under today. Central Florida (Even) was fifth followed by Liberty (+2) in sixth.

"It's not the day we were looking for, but we did have some positives to build on," said Georgia Southern coach Larry Mays. "Will is off to a great start with another top-3 finish. We have to get back home and work on consistency as we head up to Atlanta for our next event."

Wolfes was even through his first eight holes but double bogeyed nine and bogeyed 10. The junior birdied hole 11 and finished the round with seven straight pars. He tied for 39th as a second-round 79 took him out of contention.

Martin was cruising through his first nine holes and made the turn at 1-under par after making birdie on the par-5 third hole. The back nine was a struggle as he logged three straight bogeys on 12,13 and 14 and then made triple on hole 17.

Koivu and Humber were the opposite and struggled on the front nine. Koivu was 2-over on the back and finished with six consecutive pars. Humber was even on the back and capped his round with seven straight pars after a birdie on 11. His 79 today dropped him into a tie for 34th. Towler also struggled on the front nine but played the back at 2-over.

The Eagles have a few weeks off before returning to action at the AutoTrader Collegiate Classic in Duluth, Ga., Oct. 14-15.
