STATESBORO, Ga. -- The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team travels to Jacksonville Fla. to take on University of North Florida in a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Eagles are in their final stretch of the regular season, having only three dual meets left.
Last year, Georgia Southern beat UNF for the first time ever with a score of 125-118. The Ospreys hold a 5-1 advantage in the overall record between the two teams.
"We expect UNF to be real tough. It's their last home meet so they'll have a little extra spark, which is something we'll have to contend with. Last year, this meet came down to the last relay and luckily we pulled it out but we were certainly caught on our heels. If we want to win, we have to be prepared to race and compete in every event," said Head Coach Nathan Kellogg.
In the Eagles’ last home meet of the year, several swimmers several swimmers set personal bests en route of defeating UNC Asheville 146-100, winning every event but the 100 and 200m Breast.
Freshman Christina Moran finished first and set a new personal best in the 200 Free with a time of 1:58.02 and fellow Freshman Rebecca Alves claimed the top spot in the 200 IM with a new personal record of 2:12.85. Senior Lindsay Mullican swam the 100 Fly in 2:11.60, a new college best, for a third place finish.
After Saturday’s meet, the Eagles have two more dual meets on the program before the CCSA Championships on Feb. 21-23. First they will travel to Gardner-Webb on Friday, Feb. 1, then immediately head over to Davidson for a multiple team dual-meet at Davidson against five different conference opponents on Feb. 2.
