CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Georgia Southern University’s Sara Meisenhelder was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Diver of the Week, Jan. 16, as announced by the league office.
The junior qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships after a pool and school record breaking one-meter dive on Saturday, Jan. 12. In the Eagle’s meet against Darton College, Meisenhelder’s one-meter dive score of 281.70 as well as her three-meter dive score of 258.00 gave her first-place finishes in both events.
It is the second time in as many years that Meisenhelder has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, being the first diver in Georgia Southern history to do so last year.
For Meisenhelder, this week’s award is her first Diver of the Week honors this season and the third of her career. She was named CCSA Diver of the Year in 2012.
The Eagles return to action this Saturday, Jan. 19 when they host UNC Asheville at the Recreation Activity in the squad’s last home meet of the season. The event will serve as Senior Day and is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
