Women’s Soccer Hosts Georgia State on Sunday Afternoon

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern’s Women’s Soccer closes its current homestand on Sunday afternoon with a fixture against Georgia State. The battle of the GSUs starts at 1 p.m. from Eagle Field. Southern kept its unbeaten start alive on Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over South Carolina State. Courtney Collins scored her second goal of the season off a counterattack to seal the victory against the Bulldogs.
The Eagles, 4-0-2 on the year, are off to their best start since the 2000 season behind solid defensive play. Goalkeeper Katie Merson owns a 0.16 goals against average this year, allowing just one goal in 580 minutes of play. She also has 30 saves overall and five shutouts in six matches.
Georgia State is 2-3-0 on the year and took a 1-0 win over Mercer on Friday evening in Atlanta. The Panthers opened the year with a 1-0 loss to Auburn in the season opener, but responded with their first win of the year at Kennesaw State. Whitney Ravan leads State with two goals while Jewel Evans and Jordan Young have one goal each.
Following Sunday’s match, the Eagles travel to face Charleston Southern on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. Southern opens SoCon play on September 21st at home against Samford.
