STATESBORO, Ga. – The 2012-12 Georgia Southern Men’s Tennis season starts this weekend with a trip to the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia. Six Eagles will compete in both singles and doubles play throughout the weekend.
“This tournament is much earlier this year than normal,” said Head Coach Nick Ziezula. “Usually we have a full three weeks of preparation before we go. This year we have only been full go for just over a week, however, these six student-athletes have put in a lot of work over the summer and had some great tournament results. This group has gotten off to a very strong start in our training this fall and we are very excited to go compete against some of the best programs in the country.”
Andrew Dromsky is the top-seeded men’s player entering the weekend with a slot in the Division I singles competition. His road to the Championship starts with Florida’s Gordon Watson and could feature a SEC foe in the first three rounds. On the doubles side, Dromsky is paired with Oliver Webb. The pair faces Georgia’s Hernus Pieters and Ku Singh in the first round of doubles play and also features many teams from the SEC. Webb has an opening round match against North Florida’s Pedro Davisson in the first round of Division II Singles.
Freshman Rafael Racy opens his collegiate career against The Citadel’s David Orces in Division II Singles. Racy’s doubles partner Albert Codina Sala opens singles play in Division II against Tennessee Tech’s Vasily Eremeev. The pair has a Division II Doubles opening round match against Kennesaw State’s Matthew Johnson and Jorge Wilton.
Marco Osorio, back from Davis Cup duty over the summer, opens his 2012-13 campaign against Mercer’s Anderson Scarpa in Division II Singles. Kyle Hofman also drew a Bear in the opening round, facing Elbert Beekman from Mercer in the first round of Division II. Osorio and Hoffman enter Division II Doubles play against Chattanooga’s Stephen Crofford and Chris Smith.
