Women's Soccer Visits North Florida and Jacksonville This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer tours Florida’s First Coast this weekend with games at North Florida on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Eagles are off to an unbeaten 2-0-1 start, the program’s best start since the 2000 season.
GSU rallied with a goal in the 74th minute last Sunday to salvage a 1-1 draw with High Point. Nora El-Shami scored her second goal in as many matches with the equalizer against the Panthers. She leads the Eagle attack in scoring through three matches.
Courtney Collins scored eight goals a year ago and has recorded two assists in the first three matches of the 2012 season. Junior Katie Merson has played all 290 minutes in net for the Eagles with 15 saves while allowing just one goal.
North Florida enters Friday’s contest with a 2-2 record. The Ospreys fell to Furman and Clemson to open the year by identical 0-2 margins. Last weekend, UNF downed South Carolina State, 2-0, and took a 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon. The Ospreys are led by Thea Linkfield with three goals, followed by Carolina Lencia with one goal and three assists.
Jacksonville faces Navy on Friday night before facing the Eagles on Sunday. The Dolphins won their season opener over Florida Atlantic, 1-0, before dropping back-to-back contests at FIU (2-1) and South Carolina (3-0).
Following this weekend’s games, the Eagles host their first mid-week match of the season as South Carolina State comes to Statesboro for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday, September 5th.
