Women's Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Soccer announced its 2012 schedule of games on Tuesday. The slate of games consists of 11 league fixtures, and 10 total games at Eagle Field. Georgia Southern opens the 2012 campaign with an August 19th trip to Stetson.
"We are extremely excited about our 2012 schedule," said Head Coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel. "It features a great combination of home and away matches with several regional opponents. Some games will be continued rivalries while others are new for us, so the combination is exciting. We are ready to get back out there and pick up where we left off last fall, as we feel we made strides in the right direction."
Following the season-opening trip to Stetson, GSU hosts Gardner Webb and High Point on August 24th and 26th at Eagle Field. The next weekend, the Eagles travel to Jacksonville for games against North Florida and Jacksonville on August 31st and September 2nd. The second homestand of the season starts on September 5th with South Carolina State in Statesboro.
In-state rival Georgia State comes to Statesboro on Sunday, September 9th, while a trip to Charleston Southern on September 14th closes the non-conference season.
League play begins on Friday, September 21st against 2011 SoCon Champion Samford in Statesboro. The Eagles play host to Chattanooga on Sunday, September 23rd before going on the road for the next three contests. The Eagles are at Appalachian State and Western Carolina on September 28th and 30th before facing College of Charleston on Thursday, October 4th.
Georgia Southern is back at home for a game against The Citadel on October 7th before a trip through North Carolina's Piedmont Triad the next weekend. GSU plays its final road games on October 12th and 14th against Elon and UNCG.
The 2012 regular season cones to an end with three-straight home games. Furman comes to town on Friday, October 19th, followed by a October 21st date with Wofford at Eagle Field. The final regular season game of the season is on Wednesday, October 24th against Davidson.
The 2012 Southern Conference Tournament starts on Sunday, October 28th with first round games at campus sites, followed by the final rounds on November 2nd and 4th in Birmingham, Ala.
On August 12th, the Eagles host Winthrop in an exhibition match at Eagle Field. The contest will be Georgia Southern's only preseason contest. Times for GSU's slate of home games will be announced at a later date.
