The Georgia Southern Volleyball team departed for Costa Rica today after a short practice this morning in Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles travel to Orlando for their flight Tuesday to San Jose, Costa Rica, where the team begins a nine-day expedition trip in the Central American country.
Tours of San Jose and a working coffee plantation are on the list for the first few days in Costa Rica with scheduled matches versus the Costa Rican National team set for the beginning and end of the trip. The Eagles will play an additional match during the trip and have the opportunity to play some beach volleyball as well.
Getting outside the gym is one of the most important parts of the tour Georgia Southern will participate in several planned activities. The Eagles will enjoy whitewater rafting on the Savegre River, flying through the rainforest canopy on a zipline and exploring the Arenal volcano and surrounding area. The team may also spend time at Marino Ballena National Park on the Pacific Ocean side of the country and assist with a sea turtle service project.
Check back daily as members of the Volleyball team and coaches will be sending back photos and video from their travels and experiences to share with Eagle fans.
