STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team will close out its 2011-12 home slate when it welcomes Wofford to Statesboro on Saturday morning. The Eagles will also celebrate Senior Day and will look to send lone senior Alessandra Dzuba (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) out with a bang in the last home match of her collegiate career. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at Hanner Tennis Complex with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to the match.
The Eagles (5-12, 2-6 SoCon) are looking to build off their 4-2 home win against Davidson on Saturday. Dzuba clinched the win with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 5 singles. Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.), Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Natalie Maffett (Rome, Ga.) also notched victories on the afternoon. Garrido's win was her team-leading 11th of the season, while Beeler moved into second place with her seventh win of the 2012 campaign.
The Wofford Terriers are 4-12 on the season with a 0-6 record in SoCon action, having fallen to College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Samford, Furman, UNC Greensboro and Elon. The Eagles have a 7-8 all-time mark against the Terriers. The Eagles had won two consecutive meetings before dropping last year's contest in Spartanburg by a 4-3 score. Dzuba and Garrido notched singles victories in the match, while Maffett added a singles win in the Eagles' 7-0 home victory in 2010.
