Fogle and Purvis Named SoCon Player and Pitcher of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern Softball added two more accolades to the portfolio on Tuesday afternoon as Marie Fogle and Sarah Purvis were named Southern Conference Player and Pitcher of the Month for March. The Eagles as a team recorded 13 victories in March while posting a 7-0 start to league play, the best start in program history.
Fogle, a senior from Rincon, Ga., hit .554 last month with six doubles, three triples, and three home runs. She posted a .929 slugging percentage to go with eight stolen bases. She got hits in 15 of the18 games with three 3-for-3 games and a pair of 3-for-4 contests. Fogle currently leads the Southern Conference with a .464 batting average. It is the second-consecutive season that Fogle has been named SoCon Player of the Month in March.
Purvis, a sophomore from Warner Robins, Ga. went 7-3 in the circle with a no-hitter against La Salle to open the month. She struck out 90 batters in March with 16 coming against La Salle where she finished one strikeout shy of the school record. Purvis Posted a 1.81 ERA and allowed batters to hit .171 overall.
Georgia Southern goes back on the road next weekend with a three-game series at UNCG. Play begins on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. with a doubleheader. The series concludes on Saturday afternoon with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
