STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team will end its 2012 regular season slate when it visits No. 71 College of Charleston on Friday. First serve is set to begin in Patriots Point at 2:30 p.m. The match will also serve as Senior Day for the Cougar squad.
The Eagles (5-13, 2-7 SoCon) will look to build momentum for when they play in the SoCon Tournament next week. They are coming off a 5-2 loss to Wofford on Senior Day last weekend. Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) gave the Eagles the lead in doubles play, but Alexis Prickett (Charleston, S.C.) and Mimi Bollaci (Atlanta, Ga.) lost a heartbreaker in a tiebreaker, 9-7, that gave the doubles point to the Terriers. Garrido and Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) added to their team-leading win totals in singles play, but the Terriers posted wins at the other four singles positions to take the match by a 5-2 score.
The College of Charleston Cougars are 20-5 on the season with an 8-1 mark in conference. Four of their losses have come to heavyweights Duke, Clemson, South Carolina, and Tulane, while they saw a 14-match winning streak and 29-match SoCon winning streak snapped at UNC Greensboro on Saturday. The Cougars have remained undefeated at home for the entire 2012 season, posting a 14-0 record, with their last loss in Patriots Point coming to No. 15 Clemson on March 21, 2011. Their last conference loss at home came to Furman on April 9, 2009, spanning a length of 19 matches. The Eagles are 5-28 all-time against the Cougars with the Cougars holding a 12-match winning streak dating back to 2000.
