Softball Hosts La Salle in Monday Doubleheader

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball returns from an unexpected week off to take on La Salle in a Monday afternoon doubleheader at Eagle Field. The games begin at 3 p.m. with free video coverage on Eagle Vision and audio from 91.9-FM The Buzz.

The Eagles were scheduled for a trip to face Tennessee, but weather forced the trip to be delayed by two weeks. GSU holds an 8-7 overall record this year and is 4-3 at the friendly confines of Eagle Field.

Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) leads the Eagles with a .365 batting average. She hit her first home run of the season at the Eagle Classic, while sophomore Kourtny Thomas (Warner Robins, Ga.) leads the GSU home run threat with three. Andrea Tarashuk (Flemington, N.J.) is hitting .333 on the year with 11 RBI to lead the squad.

Freshman Brooke Red (Warner Robins, Ga.) holds an 0.87 ERA to pace the Georgia Southern squad which holds a 1.45 team ERA. Red is also 3-0 in the circle. Sarah Purvis (Warner Robins, Ga.) leads the Eagles in strikeouts with 44 and picked up the win over Kentucky to move to 4-3 on the year.

The La Salle Explorers are on the heels of a week off following a season-opening trip to the Upstate Tournament hosted by USC Upstate. La Salle is 0-4 on the year and was outscored 26-3 in the first four games of the year. Kristin Travers leads the Explorer offense at .286 while pitcher Alicia Aughton allowed just four earned runs over 14.1 innings of work (1.95 ERA).

The Eagles open league play next weekend with a trip to Samford. The three-game set begins on Saturday afternoon, March 10th at 2 p.m. (ET).
