STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team returns home for a conference bout against Davidson on Saturday morning. Matches between the Eagles and Wildcats are slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Hanner Tennis Complex. The match is the Eagles' second-to-last home match of the season.
The Eagles (4-12, 1-6 SoCon) are looking to rebound after suffering road losses to UNC Greensboro and Elon earlier in the week. Upperclassmen Alessandra Dzuba (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Natalie Maffett (Rome, Ga.) notched singles wins in third-set match tiebreakers against the Spartans, while Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) did the same against the Phoenix. Garrido and partner Mimi Bollaci (Atlanta, Ga.) also defeated the Phoenix in doubles action. Garrido leads the team with ten singles and nine doubles victories. Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Cameron Williams (Norcross, Ga.) are tied for second with six singles wins each, while Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) is second with six doubles wins.
The Davidson Wildcats are 3-12 on the season with a 0-2 record in SoCon action, having fallen to Elon and UNC Greensboro. Three of their losses have come to ranked opponents: N.C. State, Winthrop, and Virginia Tech. The Eagles sport a 6-14 all-time record against the Wildcats. They had lost 11 of 12 matchups between the squads before earning a 7-0 sweep in last year's contest. They received singles wins from Garrido, Maffett, and Dzuba as well as doubles wins from Maffett and the Garrido/Kitchen tandem.
