CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team began their two-game road swing in disappointing fashion on Thursday morning. The Eagles fell by a 6-1 score to the Mocs of Chattanooga. Chattanooga improves to 10-3 on the season and 2-1 in SoCon play with the victory.
The Eagles (1-13, 0-3 SoCon) fell behind in the match when they dropped the doubles point. The Moc duo of Jackson Tresnan and Manuel Barroetavena put the Eagles in an early hole by defeating Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain) and Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) at No. 3 doubles. Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) and Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) leveled the match when they downed Ankit Chopra and Chris Smith by an 8-3 score at No. 1 doubles. The win is their fourth in six matches and pulls their record above .500 for the season. The fate of the doubles point fell on the shoulders of Marco Osorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Daniel Rush (Orange Park, Fla.) at No. 2 doubles, but unfortunately they fell to Mocs Stephen Crofford and Sam Parfitt, 8-4.
The narrow defeats for the Eagles in doubles carried over into singles play. Garrido and Rush both won their first sets before falling in three at No. 1 and No. 6 singles to Chopra and Crofford. Hoffman fell to Smith at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 7-5, while Osorio lost to Pavels Grigorjevs at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3 score. The match clincher for the Mocs came when Barroetavena downed Codina Sala at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Dromsky did put the Eagles on the board with his second three-set win in three matches. He defeated Tresnan at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The Eagles will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Birmingham to complete their road trip against Samford. First serve is set for Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
