Eagles Fall to #70 Stetson, Rescheduled for Sunday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team couldn't break through on Saturday afternoon against No. 70 Stetson. The Eagles fell by a 6-1 score to the Hatters at Hanner Tennis Complex.
The Eagles (1-11) began the match by narrowly losing the doubles point. Marco Osorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Daniel Rush (Orange Park, Fla.) put the Eagles behind by falling at No. 2 doubles to begin play. Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) and Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain), fresh off their win over the No. 57 doubles team in the country, leveled the match with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. With the doubles point on the line, Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) and Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain) narrowly were defeated, 8-6, in a thriller at No. 3 doubles.
The Hatters used the momentum gained from winning the doubles point to fuel them in singles play. Sebastien Felt (Vienna, Austria) and Hoffman fell at No. 6 and No. 2 singles to give Stetson a 3-0 lead. The Hatters clinched the match when Garrido was defeated, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Codina Sala lost, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Rush lost at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-2, to give Stetson their total of six match victories. The lone singles win for the Eagles came on the racket of Dromsky at No. 4 singles, notching his second match victory of the day, when he prevailed in a third-set match tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
The schedule of play for the weekend series between Georgia Southern, Georgia State, and Stetson has been altered. Georgia Southern's bout with in-state rival Georgia State has been rescheduled for Sunday morning at 10 a.m. at Hanner Tennis Complex. The scheduled match between Georgia State and Stetson has been canceled.
