STATESBORO, Ga. - Two days after facing the top team in the Southern Conference, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles host the #3 team in the standings, the Davidson Wildcats, in the first game of Monday's Military Appreciation Doubleheader at Hanner Fieldhouse, and tip-off is set for 5 p.m. The men's squad follows at 7:30 p.m. against Furman.
Georgia Southern (7-15, 3-10) is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping three straight games. The Lady Eagles won a pair of one-point contests to snap a four-game losing streak but have since fallen twice at home to conference foes.
Davidson (14-7, 10-2) won the earlier meeting between the two schools 72-48 after forcing 20 turnovers and hitting six three pointers. The win gave the Wildcats a two-game lead in the all-time series which was tied before a sweep of the 2008-09 season series.
GSU got a boost in the return of Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.), who missed the first game in her Georgia Southern career at Wofford, to the lineup against Appalachian State. She continues to pace the team in points with 9.6 and rebounds per game with 4.9. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) is right on her heels with 9.1 points per game and averages just under 10 a contest in league play.
Anna Claire Knight (Dublin, Ga.) has gotten back to her early season success, which saw her score no less than seven points in the first three games, with nine or more points in three of the last four contests. Knight has led the team in two of those games and has scored in double figures in the Lady Eagles' last two contests.
The Wildcats have won three straight contests after holding the College of Charleston to a school-record 23 points in Saturday's victory. Laura Murray ranks third in the conference with 15.0 points per game and paces the Wildcats in the scoring column. Sophia Aleksandravicius, who reached 1,000 points in December, nearly averages a double-double with 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
