The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 homestand in which they defeated Mercer and fell to No. 71 North Florida. Matthijs Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands), Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain), and Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) secured wins in singles and doubles. Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain) and Daniel Rush (Orange Park, Fla.) won singles matches, while Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) won a doubles match with Hoffman.
'We competed well as a team in our home opening weekend," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "We are certainly going to need that fighting team spirit this weekend as we face a difficult road stretch. With back-to-back-to-back matches against quality opponents this weekend, we are going to need to dig deep to support each other and compete all the way through. This is going to be a great learning experience for the young guys to have a weekend similar to the demands of the SoCon tournament in April."
The Florida Atlantic Owls are 2-1 on the young season, only suffering a loss to No. 33 Miami. Florida Atlantic was the regular season runner-up in the Sun Belt Conference last year and holds a 5-1 all-time record against Georgia Southern, even though the teams haven't met since 2008.
The Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast are 0-2 so far under first-year head coach C.J. Weber. Georgia Southern is 2-0 all-time against the other Eagles with both of the wins coming in the last two years. Verdam, Garrido, and Sebastien Felt (Vienna, Austria) led the team with singles victories in last year's contest.
The Knights of Central Florida are 1-1 in the spring, narrowly falling to No. 41 Wake Forest. The Eagles are 6-4 in ten all-time meetings with the Knights but have lost the last four, the most recent of which was in 2010.
