Record Night for Frye Not Enough in Season Finale

Greenville, S.C. - A career high from Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) was not enough to push the Georgia Southern Eagles past Furman in the regular season finale 67-57. The junior guard notched 30 points, the most by any player in the Southern Conference this season, on 12-of-15 shooting from the field. The Eagles open SoCon Tournament play on Friday with a 2 p.m. game against Western Carolina.
Georgia Southern (8-21, 4-16) shot 37. 3% from the field, but Furman (14-15, 10-10) went 29-for-41 from the the free throw line to improve to .500 in conference play. Nearly joining Frye, who is the first Eagle to score 30 points since Sharon Mitchell in 1998, in double figures was Anna Claire Knight (Dublin, Ga.) and MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.). Both tallied nine points, and Knight went five-for-seven from the charity stripe.
Brigid Morrissey led the Paladins with 15 points and went a team best 12-for-16 from the free throw line. Raegan Thompson added seven free throws and was one of three to score in double figures. Kaitlin Murphy added 10 points and went a perfect four-for-four from the stripe.
Frye ran past her season her season high of 17 with 19 points in a back-and-forth first half. Neither team could pull away in the period and the largest lead was a five-point advantage by Furman. The two teams changed leads ten times in the first twenty minutes, but the Paladins went to the half with a 27-26 advantage.
Frye opened the second half with a three pointer, but Furman outscored the Eagles 40-31 in the period. Georgia Southern held a three-point lead with 11:28 remaining on a layup by Danielle Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.). The Paladins, however, opened up the a nine-point advantage with 6:25 left. Georgia Southern held check with Furman over the next three minutes, but the Paladins were able to extend it the lead to 11 points with less than three minutes remaining.
