Lady Eagles Close Regular Season on the Road

STATESBORO, Ga. - After a win on Senior Night, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles look to close out the regular season on a high note. The Lady Eagles travel for their final two games and will play Western Carolina at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Furman at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Georgia Southern (8-19, 4-14) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 59-47 win over UNCG on Monday. The two seniors, Janay Wilson (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Samantha Williams (Kingsport, Tenn.), scored in double figures in the victory, and the Lady Eagles picked up their 200th all-time Southern Conference victory in the process.
Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) leads the team with 10.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The junior has tallied 10 or more points in the last three games and has scored in double figures in four of the last five contests. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) leads the team in SoCon play with 9.2 points per game. The sophomore guard has helped Georgia Southern connect on four or more treys in the last five games with a 40.0% mark from downtown in SoCon play.
The Lady Eagles split the earlier meetings against Western Carolina and Furman, winning 41-40 over the Catamounts at Hanner Fieldhouse after dropping a close contest to the Paladins in December. GSU leads the all-time series against both teams and holds a 32-14 mark against WCU and a 28-20 advantage over Furman.
Winners of five of the last six games, Western Carolina (12-15, 7-11) hosts Georgia Southern in the first game of a doubleheader after a 52-44 win over Samford on Monday. Kaila'Shea Menendez leads the Catamounts with 11.9 points per game and is shooting over 80% from the free throw line.
After a trip to Cullowhee, N.C., Georgia Southern travels to Furman (13-14, 9-9) for the final game of the regular season. The Paladins snapped a three-game losing streak with a 72-53 victory over Wofford. Raegan Thompson and Brittany Hodges both are averaging over 10 points a game, and the two average over five boards a contest.
