STATESBORO, Ga. - Looking to snap a six-game losing skid, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles host Elon and UNCG in the final homestand of the year. GSU opens with Elon on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader and hosts UNCG for Senior Day on Monday. The Lady Eagles will honor their two seniors, Janay Wilson (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Samantha Williams (Kingsport, Tenn.), before the start of Monday's 7 p.m. contest.
Georgia Southern (7-18, 3-13) is still looking for its 200th Southern Conference victory after a 67-52 loss at Chattanooga on Monday. Jordi Cook (Tunnel Hill, Ga.) scored a career-high 12 points against the Lady Mocs with a pair of threes. The Lady Eagles have connected on three or more treys in the last five games and are averaging 5.2 threes per game during that stretch.
Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.), who leads the team with 9.6 points per game, tied Cook for the team lead in the game with 12 points. After a hot start to the season, Anna Claire Knight (Dublin, Ga.) has picked up her scoring lately. Knight is averaging 8.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in her last five contests. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) scored 14 and 19 points against Elon and UNCG, respectively, in the earlier meetings this season.
Elon (12-13, 8-8) has dropped four of their last six games including their last two against Davidson and Appalachian State. Ali Ford leads the Phoenix with 15.4 points per game and is one of the top scorers in the Southern Conference. Ford has connected on 78 three pointers this season and is shooting 36.4% from behind the arc. Elon defeated the Lady Eagles 61-60 on a last-second shot in North Carolina back in January.
Since a 55-54 win over Georgia Southern, UNCG (3-22, 2-15) has dropped nine-straight contests. The Spartans dropped contests against Appalachian State and Davidson last week. Breonna Patterson leads the team with 10.4 points per game, and Natalie Headley is averaging an improved 9.6 points per game in league play.
