Kristen Bates (Peachtree City, Ga.) had a huge day for the Eagles. The sophomore broke the school record in the 100 Breast in the morning prelims (1:02.94) then, proceeded to break her own record with a first-place finish in the finals. Bates won the event with a time of 1:02.30. Abigail Lavallin (Bridgwater, Somerset) also took fourth in the event for the Eagles with a time of 1:03.14.
“The 100 Breaststroke was really fun to watch,” said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. “I think that got everyone excited and it was a heck of a swim.”
The 200 Medley Relay team started the day off with a third place finish. The team of Joann Filipov (Watkinsville, Ga.), Kristen Bates, Megan Heller (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Elaina Lanson (Wadsworth, Ohio) placed with a time of 1:45.37.
“We had an incredible session tonight, as a result of our women really stepping up and performing this morning,” Said Coach Kellogg. “A lot of people moved up this evening, and one thing after another kept building our momentum.”
The Eagles will look to carry that momentum into the final day of the Championships on Saturday (Feb 18). The events will start at 10 a.m.
