Record Day for Eagles in Day One of CCSA

Athens, Ga. – In the first day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championship Meet, Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving got off to a solid start. Florida Gulf Coast leads with 263 points after day one. The Eagles are looking to improve on their fourth place finish in the Championships last season. They sit in fourth after the first day with 110 points.
The Eagles began the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 Free Relay. The team finished with a time of 1:35.42 to start the day off strong for GSU. Then the 400 Medley Relay proceeded to break the school record. The team of Sarah Schwartz (Greenwood, S.C.), Kristen Bates (Peachtree City, Ga.), Megan Heller (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Elaina Lanson (Wadsworth, Ohio) clocked a time of 3:47.04, breaking the previous record set last season by four seconds.
Lanson also took fourth in the 50 Free (23.30), while Amber Juncker (Bogart, Ga.) set a school record placing fourth in the 500 Free (4:57.29). Sara Meisenhelder (Carmel, Ind.) placed second in the 1 Meter Dive with a score of 254.70.
“Today was a really good day for us, all the way around. We had a lot of big swims, and we're in a good spot right now,” said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. “I think tomorrow is one of our better days and we're looking forward to it, and looking to continue the momentum into the next four sessions.”
Events will resume Friday morning (Feb 17) at 10 a.m.
