STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team returns home to Statesboro for a weekend slate of action. The morning session on Saturday will begin at 9:30 a.m. against South Carolina State. Sunday's finale will see Kennesaw State come to town for a noon start time.
“We're looking forward to getting back on our home courts for a nice stretch of matches,” said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. “We've had a good week of preparation and have really honed in on being more disciplined with our game plans. If we stick to our scripts, we're going to give ourselves chances to win at every position.”
The Eagles (1-6) will be glad to return to the friendly confines of Hanner Tennis Complex after playing five in a row on the road. Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) lead the Eagles with two victories in singles action, while the pair is joined for the team lead with three doubles wins by Matthijs Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands) and Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.). Dromsky and Hoffman are two of four freshmen, along with Daniel Rush (Orange Park, Fla.) and Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain), who have contributed significantly for the Eagles so far this season. They have accounted for five of the team's eight singles victories and seven of 14 doubles wins.
The South Carolina State Bulldogs (2-1) hail from the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference. They have won the MEAC title in three consecutive years and seven of eight overall. The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 6-1 in last year's contest in Orangesburg, exerting revenge from the Eagles' 4-3 win in 2010.
Atlantic Sun Conference foe Kennesaw State (3-3) is coming off a 2-1 road trip in Alabama against Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Troy. The Eagles defeated the Owls by a 7-0 score in last year's meeting via singles and doubles wins from Garrido, Verdam, and Marco Osorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras).
