Eagles on Top after Day Two of Wingate Frenzy

WINGATE, N.C. – The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team put in solid performance on Saturday at the Wingate Frenzy in Wingate, N.C. The Eagles are currently in first place with one more day of competition to go.
"We had a much better day today than yesterday. I'm very proud of how we have responded in our performances. We had many swimmers and divers that stepped up and really competed well today. We need to make sure we sustain that throughout the rest of tomorrow,” said Head Coach Nathan Kellogg.
The Georgia Southern divers came up strong again, claiming the top three finishes in in 3-Meter Diving. Sara Meisenhelder recorded her second number one finish of the meet with a score of 240.80 after also finishing first yesterday in the 1-Meter Dive. Emma Weisel came in second (221.85) and Amanda Macchio rounded out the top three with a score of 221.20.
Kristen Bates highlights the swimming portion of day two with a number one finish in the 100 Breast. After finishing behind Gardner-Webb’s Charity Byrum in the preliminaries, she beat her in the finals with a time of 1:04.04. In the same event Megan Ostrom finished fourth (1:05.75).
In the 200 Medley Relay, Christina Moran, Bates, Megan Heller and Elaina Lanson teamed up to finish second (1:46.93). Lanson also performed strong later that day, finishing second in the 100 Back (57.73). Moran came in right behind her, taking third place with a time of 58:33.
In the 400 Individual Medley, the Eagles had two top five finishes from Amber Juncker (4:35.91) and Rikki Babuka (4:36.87), finishing third and fourth respectively.
Kylee Parsons continued her strong freshman campaign, finishing fourth (1:54.70) in the 200 Free. Moran, Devan White, Juncker and Parsons hit the water one more time for another fourth place finish in the 800 Free Relay (7:50.93).
The Eagles finish up the meet and the fall portion of their season on Sunday. Preliminaries start at 10:00 a.m.
